Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson NY
Renovation & Expansion of Existing Intensive Care Unit
The outdated ICU at Columbia Memorial Hospital, including 8.4 m² patient cubicles with limited privacy, insufficient nursing stations, and lack of daylight access, underwent a transformative 650 m² renovation to address these deficiencies and meet increasing patient acuity levels.
Key improvements include:
Expansion of the unit to double its original size.
Addition of 8 standard ICU patient rooms and 1 isolation room, each 18.6 m² with direct views of the Catskill Mountains.
Implementation of decentralized nursing with dedicated satellite stations between each pair of patient rooms, following the AIA 2006 Health Care Guidelines.
Central reorganization of the unit around a support core, including enhanced visitor waiting areas and improved facilities for staff and physicians.
Through close collaboration with Columbia Memorial Hospital staff, the redesign significantly enhances staff efficiency, patient care, and overall functionality of the ICU.
